GIS Public Access is an internet-based Geographic Information System. The application makes parcels and associated data easily accessible to all governmental agencies and citizens of the Town of Colonie using internet technology. The GIS Public Access application was developed by Applied GIS, Inc using ESRI Internet Map Server software.
GIS Public Access has been designed to work with Internet Explorer 4.0 - 6.0 and Netscape 4.7 - 6.1 (with the exception of Netscape 6.0).
The average response time to draw a map is less than 30 seconds.
Many factors determine the speed at which GIS Public Access will operate. Your computer's modem speed, the network activity and speed at your internet provider and the number of concurrent users on GIS Public Access all determine the time it takes to display a map.
The Zoom In button is located in the ???. Select this button and click on an area of the map you are interested in. The map will be redrawn at a smaller scale. Click on the area of the map until you are zoomed in to your desired view. You may also Zoom In by holding down the right button on your mouse and drag a rectangle around the area you are interested in. The map will redraw to the area inside the rectangle.
The Zoom Out button is located in the ???. Select this button and click on an area of the map you are interested in. The map will be redrawn at a larger scale. Click on the area of the map until you are zoomed out to your desired view. You may also Zoom Out by holding down the right button on your mouse and drag a rectangle around the area you are interested in. The map will redraw to an area proportionate to the size of the rectangle. The smaller the rectangle you draw, the farther out the map view will zoom.
The Zoom Full button is located in the ?????. The button will allow you to zoom out to the full geographic extent of the study area (Town of Colonie, Village of Colonie, or Village of Menands).
The Pan button is located in the ?????. Select this button and click on an area of the map you are interested in. The map will be redrawn shifted to the area you clicked on. You may also pan the view by dragging the display in any direction with the mouse. To pan, move the cursor anywhere over the view, hold down the mouse button, and drag in any direction. Release the mouse button to leave the view in your desired position.
The Identify button is located in the ?????. Select this button and click any feature (e.g., parcel) currently displayed on the map view. All of the data from the attribute database will be displayed.
Users can search for a parcel based on the following criteria;
A clear selection button is available for the user to clear the selected parcels at any time. Use this button to start your parcel search over.
The buffer search will only work when a single parcel is selected. The buffer search will allow the user to search for all parcels within a specified distance of the selected parcel. The results of the buffer search will show the buffer polygon around the selected parcel and will highlight the parcels within the buffer zone. An attribute listing will be displayed showing the records for those parcels within the buffer zone.
Users can print a map of the current map display by????. The map will include a legend, scale bar, north arrow, and a user defined title block.
